Obituary

Floyd {Skip} James Cook, born June 22, 1944 of Preston died at L & M Hospital in NewLondon on Oct 26th, 2017.

Skip completed several tours of duty with the Navy as an air traffic controller. He often enjoyed sharing stories of his time stationed in Florida, Washington and Alaska. After separating from the Navy, Skip became an elementary school teacher teaching at Mystic Academy, SB Butler and Freeman Hathaway for a total of 33 years.

After the loss of his first wife Nancy to cancer in 1997, Skip married Denise Norman of Mystic. They resided in Preston, tending to their animals and property. Together, they were active members of the Open Door Baptist Church in North Stonington.

Skip will forever be remembered as a kind, patient and loving man; a true gentleman. He gave his love openly and if he judged, he kept it to himself. Many of his prior students have commented on how they remember him as a favorite teacher. He welcomed his son's friends in as family and excepted Mike’s future wife and her extended family as if it was always meant to be. Skip was able to find love again in Denise, who loved him back and stood by his side, loving and fighting for him until the end.

Skip is predeceased by his wife Nancy and oldest son, Christopher. He is survived by his wife Denise Cook, youngest son Michael Cook and daughter in law, Barbara Cook. Our lives are greater because of the gift of Skip Cook. We will remember him in our hearts and be reminded of him through his son Mike, who is so much like his father.

Thank you, Skip, for being Mike’s rock. Thank you, Skip, for loving us

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 4th at 11:00 am at the Open Door Baptist
Church, 475 Pequot Trail, Stonington. A reception will follow at the church. All are welcome to attend.
