Obituary

SHERIDAN Hugh Bernard Jr. age 88, of Needham, died Thursday, October 26, 2017. He was born in Newton Upper Falls, and baptized at Mary Immaculate of Lourdes Church. He was the son of the late Hugh B. Sheridan and Lillian (Dawson) Sheridan. He was predeceased by his brother Philip, his brother-in-law Bishop John D’Arcy of Fort Wayne-South Bend, Indiana, and his aunt Mary Whiting. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Joan (D’Arcy) Sheridan, and three sons, D’Arcy of Needham, John and his wife Susan, of Maplewood, New Jersey, and Patrick and his wife Kristen of Franklin. He leaves five grandchildren: Margaret, Nolan, Aidan, Judy, and Philip Sheridan. He also leaves his sister-in-law Sister Anne D’Arcy, CSJ, of Milton.

Hugh graduated from Newton High School in 1947, and then worked at Electronic Prototypes in Boston. He joined the Army in 1951. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in Japan. He then worked as a firefighter for the City of Newton for thirty-two years, where he was a union member. After retiring from the fire department, he worked at St. Bartholomew’s Church in Needham, where he was an active parishioner. For 47 years he loved spending summers at his house in Falmouth where he was a daily communicant at St. Patrick’s Church. He enjoyed political discussions, watching the Red Sox and Patriots, and spending time with his family.

Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home 1305 Highland Ave. NEEDHAM on Monday, October 30th at at 9am. Followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Bartholomew Church, Needham at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours Sunday, October 29th from 3-7pm. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery, Needham. Expressions of sympathy may be made in Hugh’s memory to the Disability Law Center, Boston; the Charles River Center, Needham; or the Price Center, Newton.
