Obituary

Margaret Sheila Mills of Whitman, MA passed away suddenly on October 22, 2017 surrounded by her family that she loved.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years Raymond Fredrick Mills, loving mother to Judith Rondeau (Tom), Tanya Mills (Chris), Tracy Lehman (Matt), and Raymond Shane Mills (Andrea). Predeceased by daughter Kelley in infancy.

Margaret was the loving grandmother to Chris, Nick, Haley, Bo, Shaelynn, Jake, Abi, Lexi, and Aspen. Margaret was the loving daughter of Gordon and Doris (Briggs) MacGregor of Glace Bay, and daughter-in-law of Fred and Mae Mills of Donkin, Cape Breton, “Doggy Mom” to Simon and Yang.

She is survived by her siblings Shirley (Billy), Ann (Norm), Ethel (Porky), Cathy (Allister), Fraser (Jane), and Audrey (Scott). Sister-in-law to Pat (Henry), Dub (Joyce), Ruth (Brian), Jim (Margie), Gail (George). Marge is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend.

Margaret was born and raised in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia and graduated from Morrison Glace Bay High School, Class of 1958.

Marge was an avid dancer in her younger years, who rounded many of the top dance sites in Glace Bay in the 50’s. While on leave from the Navy, it has been said that Ray bribed his sister Ruth with fifty cents to introduce him to her. After several years of courtship when Ray was finished serving his time in the Navy, the two love birds would soon be married and move to the United States.

The move to Massachusetts wasn’t an easy one, but friends with big hearts helped get the two on their feet. After moving to Whitman she developed many relationships that lasted a lifetime. Many great people truly cared about Marge. One in particular family, David and Sue Wadman would garner many memories that have comforted the family in these difficult times. Many long walks around the town with Sue in her younger days for fitness, followed by many cups of tea for her soul in later years, always brought a smile to her. Many friends come and go but the relationship with Sue lasted a lifetime.

In the early years of their kids’ lives, they always traveled home to Nova Scotia for their yearly family vacation. Ray and Marge made many trips to Canada and elsewhere throughout her life. Marge was an enabler to all of her children to dream big and try most anything. She was also stronger than most knew and leaned on Ray to get him to compromise on most anything and see things her way.

A dedicated employee of Bradlees Department store and Old Navy where she developed relationships that lasted a lifetime not to mention the discount that all employees received for their employment. There wasn’t a car that she owned that wouldn’t come home with a scratch or dent from the crash and dash parking lots where she worked.

Marge infinitely loved her Ray and family. There is not a person who could dispute that her sudden death was easier to bear knowing that she just had a visit with her son, saw her siblings, danced one last time, and was surrounded by her husband and daughters at the time of her death, and had her child, Kelley, waiting in Heaven for her arrival. Amazing!

God Bless Marge and we will miss her every day.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visiting hours on Sunday October 29 from 2:00-4:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. All other services will be private.
