Obituary

Gene Lewis, 84, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held 3 PM, Friday, October 27, 2017, at Crossview Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jeff Parmer officiating. His son, Gary Lewis, will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends, from 1:30 PM until the service hour at the church.

Mr. Lewis was born November 27, 1932, in Turner County, Georgia, to the late George Lafayette & Laura Edrie Swain Lewis. He had lived in the community since 1963. Mr. Lewis served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a technician and worked for the Box Factory in Albany, H.R. Kaminsky & Sons, Modern Fibers and retired from Shaw Industries, all of Fitzgerald. Mr. Lewis loved playing the guitar and singing gospel music. He also enjoyed playing rook and visiting flea markets and yard sales. He enjoyed bowling on the WII with his wife, singing to his grandchildren, studying the Bible and listening to Charles Stanley. Mr. Lewis was a member of Crossview Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Magdalene Lewis of Fitzgerald; children: Teresa & David Reynolds of Fitzgerald, Gary & Phyllis Lewis of Perry, Florida, Mike Lewis & Renee Richardson of Fitzgerald and Darrell & Derinda Lewis of Fitzgerald; nine grandchildren: Melinda & Justin Johnson, Ashley Covington & Garrett Burch, Jennifer & Eric Chastain, Jessica & Rafy Llanes, Kasi & Tray Ross, Chad & Amanda Lewis, Chase Lewis, Brandon Lewis and Jesse Lewis; 16 great-grandchildren: Ansley Johnson, Aniston Johnson, Ambree Johnson, Addie Tucker, Wayden “Bubba” Tucker, Basil Steele, Abby Chastain, Noel Chastain, Ruby Llanes, Levi Llanes, Laura Belle Ross, Kason Ross, Brynslee Lewis, Blayden Reaves, Amelia Lewis and Jaxon Lewis; two sisters: Avis & Jimmy Josey of Fitzgerald and LaVerne & Reuben Pitts of Fitzgerald and a brother, Sydney Lewis of Fitzgerald. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ira Lewis and a son-in-law, Wayne Covington.
