Obituary

Alfred A. “Smokey” Cerrone, Jr, 88, died Sunday, October 22, 2017 in the Hospice Intake Center, Providence. He was the husband of Annette (Pitrone) Cerrone. They had been married for 21 years.

Born in Providence, he was a son of Alfred and Mary (Vessella) Cerrone. He was a former automobile dealer at Harris Auto Sales and Cerrone Auto Sales. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Mr Cerrone was the nominated the RI Heritage Hall of Fame, was a multi year winner of the Pacemaker Sales Award for his Chrysler / Plymouth sales. He was a former NHL Scout for the Minnesota North Stars, New York Rangers and the Chicago Black Hawks. He had also help place hundreds of hockey players in local prep schools and local colleges.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons, Philip Cerrone and his wife, Mickie, of Glocester, Alfred “Al” Cerrone of Narragansett, Stephen Cerrone of Quechee, Vermont, and Michael Cerrone of Narragansett, as well as his ten grandchildren: Kristina, Michael, Lisa, Catherine, Micahela, Alana, Victoria, Alfred, and Stephen, his great-grandson, Nicholas, his sister, Lillian LaRocco of Warwick, his step-children, Jay Gatto (Kathie) of Jacksonville, Florida, Craig Gatto (Laurie) of Chicago, Illinois, and Nicole Garbutt (Chuck) of Brooklyn, Connecticut, and his step-grandchildren: Jake, Dillon, Kate, Connor, Bennett, Joey, Isabella and Gabriella. He was the brother of the late Cynthia Cerrone.

A Memorial Mass will be held Friday at 10 am in St Gregory the Great Church, 360 Cowesettt Road, Warwick. Burial with Military Honors will take place at the convenience of the family in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visitation Thursday from 4-8pm in the Anderson-Winfield Home, Rt44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Hospice and Palliative Care, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI or St. Gregory the Great Church, 360 Cowesett Road, Warwick, RI 02886.
