Dorothy M. (Cardoza) Ellis, 68, of Dartmouth died Thursday October 13, 2005 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Michael Ellis.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Peroni) Cardoza, she lived in Dartmouth most of her life.
She was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church, where she was a lector and Eucharistic minister.
Mrs. Ellis was formerly employed as a school teacher in the New Bedford Public School System for many years, most recently at the Thomas R. Rodman School, until her retirement.
Mrs. Ellis was a graduate of Dartmouth High School and Bridgewater State College, where she received both her Bachelors and Masters Degrees. She was a member of the Ladies Guild at St. Francis of Assisi Church and was also a Eucharistic Minister at St. Luke's Hospital. She was the recipient of the Marian Medal from the Diocese of Fall River.
Survivors include a sister, Jean Rapoza of New Bedford; her companion, Phil Souza of New Bedford; four stepchildren; a nephew John Rapoza; and two great-nieces.
Her Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday October 18, 2005 at 10 AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church. Burial will follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery in Mattapoisett. Visiting hours are omitted.
