Silvestrs (Sy) Lambergs, age 88, peacefully passed away Friday morning, October 20, 2017 at the Colonial Rehab and Nursing Center in Weymouth, MA. Formerly a long-time resident of Medfield, Sy was born in Jelgava, Latvia, the first-born son of the late poet and classical soprano Marija (Urnezus) and attorney Valdemars Lambergs. Mr. Lambergs owned and operated several local businesses, including National Data Systems of Boston. He
was active and respected for his many contributions to the Latvian-American community, including acting and touring with the Boston Latvian Theatre Group and participating in many other local cultural groups. He was the co-founder of the Latvian Heritage Foundation. Locally, we was best known for hosting and producing the Latvian language weekly radio classical musical broadcast “Spotlight on Latvia”, for decades heard on Sunday evenings on WCRB. Before immigrating to the US from post-war Bavaria in 1950, he was an active athlete, danced in Latvian folk groups, and his smooth bass voice was heard in the Latvian Men’s Choir in Germany, directed by his mother Marija.
Mr. Lambergs is survived by his brother, Maris Lambergs, of North Grafton, MA, and numerous relatives both in the US and in his native Latvia including six nieces and newhews. He was the loving husband of the late Valentina (Vasilevska) Lambergs.
A funeral service will be held at the Latvian Lutheran Church of Boston, 58 Irving
Street, Brookline, MA., Friday at 10:30 AM, followed by interment at the Gardens of
Gethsemane, West Roxbury. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
