Paul Raymond Rousseau, 89, of New Bedford died October 19, 2017 suddenly at home. He was the husband of Anita Therese (Gagnon) Rousseau.
Born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Margaret I. (Donaghy) Rousseau and Wilfrid J. Rousseau, MD and the brother of the late Jeanne M. Mathieu and Richard W. Rousseau, S.J..
Mr. Rousseau served in the United States Army Medical Corps during the Korean War.
He was a proud graduate of Cranwell Preparatory School in Lenox, MA and College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA.
Mr. Rousseau was the co-owner of LaFrance Jewelers located in downtown New Bedford. He was a graduate of the Gemological Institute of America and was a Certified Gemologist Appraiser accredited by the American Gem Society.
Memberships included the Exchange Club of New Bedford and Knights of Columbus (Fourth Degree). Mr. Rousseau was also an incorporator of Compass Bank and member of the Greater New Bedford Industrial Foundation. For many years, he enjoyed family activities at Long Pond in Lakeville, Massachusetts.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Paula A. Madden; a daughter, Marguerite L. Crocker and her husband Robert; a son, Marc R. Rousseau; seven grandchildren, Francis L. Madden, Jr. and his wife Gail, Christopher P. Madden, Kimberly A. Madden, Kali E. Crocker, Kasey T. Daley and her husband John, Marc R. Rousseau, Jr. and his wife Meredith, and Gary C. Rousseau; two great-grandchildren, Ella A. Madden and Ava J. Madden; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the father-in-law of the late Francis L. Madden, Sr.
His Funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at St. Julie Billiart Church, 494 Slocum Rd, North Dartmouth at 10 AM.
