Obituary

…formerly of Tewksbury; 87
ROTONDA WEST, FL - Mary R. (Jardim) Bain, 87, died suddenly into the loving arms of her savior Jesus Christ on Monday morning October 16, in the loving care of her daughter Rose at home in Florida. She was the beloved wife of Hugh L. Bain, “Leroy”, with whom she had celebrated a sixty-six year wedding anniversary this past September 29th.
A great sadness has fallen on her children, Christine M. Gauthier and her husband Paul of Freedom, NH, David L. Bain and his wife Paula of Lowell, MA, Alan H. Bain and his wife Stephanie of Reedsport, OR, and Rose M. Melvin of Rotonda West, FL.
She was born and raised in Esmond, RI, one of two daughters of the late Louis and Maria (Frade) Jardim. From school, she worked in the Greystone Mills, RI, making uniforms for the soldiers serving in WWII. While sitting on a bus with her mother, in Providence, RI, a young navy sailor approached her open window and asked for her address to write to her as he was shipping out. Mary loved to write letters and that sailor was Hugh L Bain. This chance encounter led to many letters and marriage in 1951. She lived in Tewksbury from 1954 until 2016, when she and her husband moved to Florida’s west coast. As a Tewksbury resident she was an active parishioner in St. William’s Church, and a member of the St. William B.V.M. Ladies Sodality. She was also an active member of Melrose Emblem Club, Chapter 89.
Mary created a loving and welcoming home for her children but the special sparkle in her life was her grandchildren who grew up with “Grammy” having a special place in their lives and hearts: Nicole Gauthier, Michael Bain and his wife Vanessa, Matthew Bain, Daniel Bain and his wife Meghan, Timothy Bain and his wife Angelica, Melissa Alamed and her husband Jason, Kimberly Langone and her husband Steve, Alan H. Bain, Jr. and his wife Lily, Tina Decoteau and her husband Dan, Michelle Bain, David Melvin III, Lewis Melving and his wife Merissa, Casandra Melvin, Carol Rush and her husband Jay, and Daniel Labraney.
In addition to her loving husband, children, and grandchildren, Mary is survived by thirty-six great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, three step grandchildren, seven step great-grandchildren, her sister’s two sons, Edward Panzarella and his wife Donna of Washington, DC, Richard Panzarella of PA, her Aunt’s three children, Ann Marie Wheeler of RI, Eugene DeJesus and his wife Bessie of MA, and Michael DeJesus and his wife Judy of RI.
Preceding her in death are her parents, her sister Eliza Panzarella and her husband Lt. James F. Panzarella (who died serving his country in the Viet Nam War), and her mother’s sister Eliza DeJesus and her husband Eugene.
