Quentin Abbott Sanford, 88, passed away October 8, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Beatrice R. Sanford. They had been married 59 years.
He was the owner of Handy Hill Creamery in Westport and Pachet Brook Park in Tiverton. He was the former owner of Heritage Park in Tiverton and Star Diner in Rumford, R.I.
Born at home in Westport to the late Edson L. and Ella M. (Andrews) Sanford. He was a 1947 graduate of Westport High School. During high school, he served on the Westport Fire Dept. as a substitute for the firemen serving in WWII.
Following graduation, he worked at the Hollywood Beach Hotel in Florida before returning to Westport to work as a meat cutter at his Uncle Herbert Sanford's Market.
After two years in the U.S. Army, he graduated from the New Bedford Institute of Textiles and Technology in 1954. He was employed as a draftsman at RCA in Burlington, MA and the Raytheon Submarine Signal Division in Portsmouth, RI.
He was a long-time member of Holy Trinity Church in Tiverton where he served on the Vestry and as an Usher.
He is survived by his daughter Bethany Smith and her husband Douglas of Westport, and his son Quentin, Jr. of Tiverton.
He also leaves his sisters-in-law, Mrs. Frank (Sandra) Rawcliffe of Smithfield and Mrs. George (Jocelyn) Sanford of Lincoln, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, dear friends the Caron Family and his cats, Dusty Paiva and Tux.
He was predeceased by his brothers; George E. Sanford, Roger A. Sanford, Kenneth L. Sanford and by his Aunt; Helen E. Sanford, who was like a second mother to him.
At his request, visitation was omitted. A memorial service to which relatives and friends are invited will be held October 20 at 10:00 A.M. at Holy Trinity Church, 1956 Main Road, Tiverton. Burial to follow at Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
