Obituary

Rev. Wayne McCrimmon, 79, of Irwin County, Georgia, died Saturday, October 14, 2017, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at Big Creek Baptist Church in Irwin County, with the Rev. Tommy Land, Jr. and the Rev. Larry Layfield officiating. Interment will follow in Brushy Creek Cemetery, Irwin County. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Monday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.

Rev. McCrimmon was born July 13, 1938, in Miami, Florida to the late Charles & Evie Mae Laminack McCrimmon. He was a 1956 graduate of Miami Edison High School. He worked at Cape Canaveral until joining the United States Air Force in 1957, where he served his country honorably. Following his discharge from the service, he attended Miami Dade College. He began his career with Southern Bell in 1964 in Tucker, Georgia. In 1966, he was transferred to Tifton. He met and married the late Bobbie Pearl Dixon Evans in 1966 and helped to raise her three sons. He was ordained in the ministry at Big Creek Baptist Church. He pastored New Griffin Baptist Church for 10 years. He was transferred to Cocoa, Florida with AT&T and later transferred to Valdosta. He was called to pastor Big Creek Baptist Church in 2003 and retired on Father’s Day in June of this year due to health reasons. Bro. Wayne enjoyed sharing the Word of God. He loved spending time with his family and also enjoyed traveling and finding good places to eat. He was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Cooper Hendley McCrimmon of Irwin County; step-children: Sherri Hendley of Worth County and John W. “Billy” & Randi Hendley of Tift County as well as their three children; step-sons: Rick & DeeDee Evans and Sam & Carmen Evans, and a daughter-in-law, Marla Harper Evans, all of Irwin County as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a brother, James McCrimmon of New Smyrna Beach, Florida. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Pearl Dixon Evans McCrimmon; a step-son, Stanley Evans; a step-daughter-in-law, Shirlene Evans; an infant sister, Gerolyn McCrimmon; and twin brothers: Freddy McCrimmon and Teddy McCrimmon.
