GRAHAM, Philip J. 91, of Norfolk formerly of Wellesley, died peacefully surrounded by family, Friday, October 13, 2017 at the Veteran’s Center in Brockton. He was the beloved husband of the late Gertrude E. (Gallagher) Graham for 53 years. Devoted father of Philip J Graham Jr. and his wife Jenny of Norfolk. Loving Grandfather of Brittney Graham of Franklin and Connor Graham of Norfolk. He was the brother of the late Paulina Covell, Edward Carpovich, and Eleanor Carpovich. Phil is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Phil was born in Boston to the late Clement and Alta Carpovich and ultimately resided in Wellesley before moving to Norfolk in 2014.
Phil was a US Navy veteran of WWII first having served aboard merchant and Liberty ships SS Gulf Maracaibo and SS Moses Cleveland. Later he would be assigned to the BB-62 Iowa Class battleship, USS New Jersey and took part in multiple operations throughout the Asiatic Pacific. After leaving the armed services, Phil completed a 30 year career with the United States Postal Service until his retirement. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion.
Phil was an avid fan of the Boston sports teams and was happiest when he was with his family, especially on a Sunday afternoon watching the Patriots with his “grand dogs” at his feet.
Funeral from the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St., (Rt.16) WELLESLEY, Tuesday, Oct. 17 at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Paul Church, Wellesley at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours at the funeral home Monday, Oct. 16 from 4-8pm. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellesley. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Phil’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
