John “Jay” Ribiero, Jr.

Dateline: Norton, MA

John “Jay” Ribeiro, Jr., age 65, a lifelong resident of Norton, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 13, 2017 at the McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich.

Born in Taunton, MA on August 1, 1952, he was a loving son of John J., Sr. and Hilda (Rocha) Ribeiro of Norton.

Jay grew up, and was educated in Norton and was a 1970 graduate of Norton High School. He furthered his studies, attending Northeastern University. He had a lifelong passion for music, especially the blues and was a self-taught guitar player.

Jay worked side by side with his sons at Ribeiro Enterprises in Norton, where he was fondly known as “the worlds greatest shoveler” He was previously employed for many years at the former Country Haven Nursing Home in Norton and the former Sharon Manor Nursing Home in Sharon, which were founded and operated by the members of the Ribeiro family.

Jay loved spending time with his family and was as proud as a father could be of his children. He was inspirational in the building of the Burchill B little league baseball field in Norton, for the community’s children to enjoy.

He treasured the times spent at his family’s home in Bourne, where he enjoyed fishing, quahogging and clamming. He also enjoyed gardening, landscaping and simply put, the great outdoors. Jay was a communicant of St Mary’s Church in Mansfield had a special place in his heart for animals.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his devoted children Dylan J. Ribeiro and his wife Shelby of Norton, Sean T. Ribeiro and his wife Lindsay of Norton and Nikki B. Ribeiro of Norton. He was the adoring grandfather of Pace and Madden Ribeiro. He was the brother of Carol Navedo and her husband John of Norton, and is also survived by several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and his best friend “Layla”

His funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 17th at 11:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Power St., Norton. Burial will be private.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, October 16th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton.

In place of flower’s, Jay’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the McCarthy Care Center, 73 Service Road, East Sandwich, MA 02537
