Rev. Huey Nichols, 83, of Douglas, Georgia, died Sunday, October 8, 2017, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Ocilla, with the Rev. Rick Brown officiating. His son, Keith Nichols, will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in Irwinville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mr. Nichols was born October 3, 1934, in Irwin County, Georgia, to the late Grady Paul & Mary Mildred Godwin Nichols. He was an honor graduate and attended seminary in Atlanta at night while working during the day. He began his telecommunications career with Western Electric, later AT&T and then Lucent Technologies, where he worked wiring switchboards for large clients. Rev. Nichols served God as pastor of many churches throughout south Georgia for almost 50 years. He was a world missionary, having traveled extensively to Kenya, Liberia, India, Russia, Panama, and Brazil spreading the Word of Christ. He loved to hunt and fish in his spare time. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Bridgetown, where he currently served as pastor.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Pat Nichols of Douglas; his children and their spouses: Keith & P.J. Nichols of Raleigh, North Carolina, Jeff & Tina Nichols of Millwood, Karen & Doug Harrell of Statesboro, Tammy & Steve Grimes of Douglas, Mark & Holli Nichols of Statesboro, Matt & Kimberly Nichols of Statesboro, and Donna & Mike Moseley of Broxton; 19 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Elijah John Birge and three sisters, Carmen Jane Vickers, Mary Paula Paulk, and Mona Faye Simmons.
