Flora "Chickie" (Camp) DeScenza of Medford died on Thursday, October 5 at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center of Burlington. Born in Boston's North End, she was raised and educated in Medford, the daughter of the late Joseph and Flora (Marotta) Camp.
Chickie graduated from Medford High School in 1942 and studied language for one year Boston University. She was a member of Lawrence Memorial Hospital School of Nursing class of 1946; one of the first classes of Cadet Nurses from Lawrence Memorial and went to Anaheim, CA in 1944 to attend to the polio victims. Chickie earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees at Boston College School of Nursing in 1959.
Chickie was the beloved wife of the late Henry E. DeScenza, and the dear sister of Claire (Camp) Freer and her husband William of Olympia, WA, and their children Camille, Timothy, Victoria, Patrick and Michael; Marilyn (Camp) Stumcke of Reading and her children Edward, Karen, Marcia and Brian. She is also survived by many loving cousins.
A funeral mass will be celebrated in St. Raphael Church, 512 High St., Medford, Tuesday, Oct. 10 at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may visit with the family from 9 - 10 AM in church. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. In lieu of flowers contributions may be sent in Chickie's name to a charity of One's choice.
