WEST SPRINGFIELD – Marjorie E. “Marge” (Pelland) Fortin, 96, a resident of Landmark at Monastery Heights in West Springfield and a former longtime resident of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, October 4, 2017. She passed into Eternal Life at Monastery Heights in West Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born in Chicopee on March 28, 1921, a beloved daughter of the late Rheo and Esther (Miller) Pelland. She was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Chicopee High School and attended the Harvey Cosmetology School in Holyoke. She lived in Chicopee for most of her life and moved to West Springfield in 2012. Marge was employed as a hairdresser for many years at the Y Beauty Salon in the Willimansett section of Chicopee and retired in 1995. She was a life-member of the Order of the Eastern Star Mount Vernon Chapter No. 97 of Belchertown. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and crocheting and most especially loved playing the piano. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and her many dear friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Robert A. Fortin who was Called Home on September 11, 1997. They were married on September 18, 1961 and were blessed with over 35 years of happiness together. She leaves her three loving children, Bruce A. Fortin and his wife, Joanne, of Sterling, MA, Christine E. Fortin of Nantucket, MA and Robert P. Fortin and his wife, Ann, of West Springfield; her seven cherished grandchildren; her 11 cherished great grandchildren; her dear sister, Jean M. Simpson of Sterling; her dear sister-in-law, Leah Robert of Ware; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Fortin, the Pelland and the Robert families. Her family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the staff at Landmark at Monastery Heights and Mercy Life for their wonderful care of Marge. Her family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon which will be followed by an Eastern Star Prayer Service at 12 noon at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The funeral home parking lot and main entrance are located at the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Burial will follow the Prayer Service at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075.
