Diana (Dede) Ward Luckett, age 86, of Larchmont, New York, passed away on October 2, 2017, with her loving family at her side, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on October 30, 1930. The daughter of Mary Elizabeth Kent and Charles Forbes Ward. Diana graduated from St. Margaret’s school in Tappahannock, Virginia, in 1950. She was an all-state champion Field Hockey player and a member of the Dramatics and Athletic Associations. She married William Stone Luckett II in Philadelphia, PA in February of 1959.
She was predeceased by her husband, William Stone Luckett II and her eldest son Edward Hobbs Luckett II. She is survived by her daughters Kathryn Crawford Luckett of Portsmouth, RI and Alexandra Ward Luckett of Rye, NY, and her son James Taylor Luckett of Cape Hatteras, NC. Her grandchildren Diana Lynas, Peyton Lynas, Jennifer Luckett, Billy Luckett, Timmy Luckett, Marlee Luckett, and Lana Luckett. A great granddaughter Mia Taylor. Her son- in-law Stephen Pasquariello and daughter-in-law Caroline Luckett.
Throughout her lifetime, Dede was known for her generosity, dedicating her time to different charities such as the Cancer Support Team, and the Junior League of Westchester on the Sound. She was a cherished member of the Larchmont Yacht Club, helping to organize water aerobics and regattas, but most of all, buoying generations of families with her warm smile and big heart.
Dede Luckett was beloved for her bubbly personality and deep compassion for others, and admired for her strength in the face of challenges. To know Dede was to love her; she was such a beautiful, kind soul. There was no in-between. She embraced life and saw the good, no matter what, spreading sunshine wherever she went. She will be deeply missed, but the way she modeled living a joyous life and caring for family lives on forever in the lives she touched.
A memorial service will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 4 Fountain Square, Larchmont, NY on Saturday, October 14th, 2017 at 11:00am. Burial services are private.
