Donald E. Leger, Sr., 80, of Tiverton, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at home. He was the husband of Leanore F. "Lea" (King) Leger, they would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on October 12.
Mr. Leger was born in Tiverton, son of the late Albert A. and Laurenna P. (Jean) Leger and had been a lifelong resident of the town. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served his country in the U.S. Air Force. Prior to his retirement, he worked as the produce manager for the Navy Commissary at the Newport Naval Base where he had also worked as a truck driver. He enjoyed fishing and was a an avid New England sports fan. He was a communicant of St. Theresa's Church, Tiverton. Mr. Leger loved mowing his lawn and spending time with family.
Survivors along with his wife include his 2 sons: Donald E. Leger, Jr. and his wife Rosa of SC, Dean A. Leger of Tiverton; his daughter: Donna L. Bento of Tiverton; a sister: JoAnn Heatherly of AZ; daughter-in-law: Stacy Leger; 6 grandchildren: Donald, III, Shauna-Lea, Ryan, April, Landon and Adam; a great granddaughter: Savannah; along with many nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late David J. Leger.
Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, October 7, 2017 from the Potter Funeral Home at 8:30 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Theresa's Church, Tiverton at 10:00 A.M.
Calling hours will be Friday from 5-8 P.M.
Interment will be in Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery, Little Compton.
