Obituary

Manuel F. "Manny" Morea, 79, of Dartmouth died Saturday October 8, 2005 at the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home after a brief illness. He was the husband of Cheryl (Stepak) Morea.

Born in Cambridge, the son of the late Manuel F. and Hattie G. (Taylor) Morea, he lived in Mattapoisett and Dartmouth for many years.

Mr. Morea was the owner and president of A.D. McMullen Van Lines until his retirement in 1999. He also had been associated with Cheryl Travel Agency.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy and was awarded the World War II Victory medal, the American Theater medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal with one star, and the European-African Theater Medal.

Manny loved life. He enjoyed going to the casino, working in the yard, and smoking his cigars. He loved his family and was kind to everyone. He gave something of himself to everyone he met.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Stephen Morea of Florida and Lloyd Morea, and his wife Sandra, of Marion; three daughters, Lynne Ballantyne, and her husband William, of Douglas, GA, Deborah Farrell, and her husband William, of Fairhaven, and Diana Rauti, and her husband Jouni, of New Hampshire; four stepchildren, Michelle Ponds, and her husband Billy, of Washington DC and San Francisco, Eric Anapol of Dallas, Gregory Anapol, and his wife Jeannette, of Buffalo, NY, and Alison Dugan, and her husband Raymond, of South Dartmouth; a brother, Louis Morea of Yarmouth; two sisters, Eleanor Christie and Frances Dumas, both of Bridgewater; his mother-in-law, June Goldfarb of Coconut Creek, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; a great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Robert Morea and Rita Gingilski.


His Funeral Services, with Military Honors, will be held on Monday October 17, 2005 at 11:30 AM at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. His family will receive visitors at the family residence following the service from 1-5 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home, 200 Hawthorn St., New Bedford, MA 02740, Southcoast Homecare Hospice, 200 Mill Rd., Fairhaven, MA 02719, or the charity of one's choice.
