Delores C. "Dolly" (Soares) Pires, 70, of New Bedford passed away Monday October 2, 2017 after a long illness. She was the wife of Manuel V. Pires.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Miguel M. and Caroline (Lopes) Soares, she lived in New Bedford all of her life. She was a graduate of New Bedford High School.
Mrs. Pires was formerly employed by the City of New Bedford Council on Aging until her retirement. She had previously worked as a payroll clerk at the Frances P. Memorial Hospital.
She was a former member of the Cape Verdean Ultramarine Band Club. She enjoyed dancing and playing on her computer. Her pride and joy were her polished fingernails and her jewelry.
Survivors include her husband; four stepchildren, Aida Pires, Antonio Pires, Jaime Pires, and Iolanda Martins, all of New Bedford; her siblings, Manuel Soares and Anita Soares, both of Statesville, NC, Michael Soares and Caroline Castro, both of Wareham, Mary Costa of Lancaster, CA, Eugenia Lopes of Ormond Beach, FL, and Doreen Silva of New Bedford; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was the sister of the late Amelia Soares.
Her Funeral will be held on Friday October 6, 2017 at 10 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 11 AM.
