Charlotte Nelms, 85, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Saturday, September 30, 2017, at her residence.
Funeral services will be held 4 PM, Saturday, October 7, 2017, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with Minister Michael Lamb officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery, in Fitzgerald. The family will receive friends Saturday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Mrs. Nelms was born September 20, 1932, in Lakeland, Florida, to the late Luther & Hyla Stella Clark Humphreys. She moved to Fitzgerald in 1984 from Lakeland, Florida and was owner and operator of Badcock Furniture along with her husband Gail Nelms. She was an active member for 25 years of the Fitzgerald Kiwanis Club and was Kiwanian of the Year in 1993 and served as President in 1995. Mrs. Nelms worked at the Blue-Gray Museum and with The Paulk Funeral Home. She also loved plants. Mrs. Nelms was a member of the Fitzgerald Church of Christ for 33 years.
She is survived by her two sons: David W. Nelms of Fitzgerald and John N. Nelms of Fitzgerald; a daughter-in-law, Trudy Nelms Brown of Chicago, Illinois; two grandchildren: David Lee Nelms of Mableton and Emily Gail Nelms Brown of Chicago, Illinois and a sister, Louise Gilliam of Lubbock, Texas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gail Buford Nelms and a son, Curtis O. Nelms.
