Marie R. (Berthiaume) Hamel of Chicopee, born Christmas Day 1937, beloved wife, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, passed away September 26th, 2017. Marie will be remembered for the great love and life she shared with her late husband Louis who she was married to for 45 years. Together they enjoyed adventures to faraway lands such as Germany and Alaska while Louis served in the U.S. Army. Later in life their road trips to sandy beaches and shores dotted with lighthouses was something they cherished. Marie was born, raised, and lived in Chicopee. Marie worked as a machine operator for Dielectrics for 19 years before retiring in 1999. She was a communicant of the former St. Mary’s Church in E. Springfield, MA. She was the devoted daughter of Francis and Jeannette (Dube) Berthiaume, who predeceased her. Marie was also predeceased by her brother Francis Berthiaume and several sisters in law and brothers in law. Marie is survived by her sister Janet Lavoie, sisters in law Jeannette Hamel and Dorothy Squires, several beloved God children as well as many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was grateful for the compassion and care from the wonderful staff of the Mercy LIFE PACE program. She also cherished her affectionate four-legged companion, Josh. A Memorial Mass will be held on Wed., Oct. 4, 2017 at 11:30 a.m., in Mary Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Blvd, Springfield, followed by burial in the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
