Obituary

OLD ORCHARD BEACH—David G. MacDonald, 77, died of heart failure on Sept. 27, 2017 at his home. He was born in Attleboro, MA on Aug. 11, 1940 to John and Evelyn MacDonald. After graduating from Northeastern University, he went to work for the Cabot Corp as a printer. After several years there, he went to work as a sales rep for Reynolds and Reynolds, first in the greater Boston area, then transferred to Maine in 1976. After a happy and successful career, he retired in 1996. He enjoyed golf, woodworking and being the neighborhood “fix it” man. His favorite project was building a 1963 Austin Healy 3000. He enjoyed driving it all around the state-but only in good weather! After retirement, he volunteered at MMC for many years, earning his 5000 hour pin. He really enjoyed the people he worked with and helping patients. Travel was a passion, going to Europe, Africa, Bermuda, Mexico, Hawaii, and on many cruises. He loved his winter home in Sun City AZ and spent 7 wonderful winters there. In his later years, he “got to meet a sizable number of doctors” and spent time reading and doing crossword puzzles. He leaves his wife and best friend of 37 years, Brenda Foss MacDonald and 2 children, Christine A. MacDonald and D. Scott MacDonald and wife Chrissy.

A reception and celebration of David’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 25, at 2pm, at Cider Hill Clubhouse, 2 Cider Hill Drive, Old Orchard Beach. Online condolence messages can be submitted at the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service website, www.mainefuneral.com. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice of Southern Maine, 180 US Rt. 1, Scarborough ME 04074 for their support and comfort of David and Brenda in his final months.
