Obituary

March 19,1934 - September 23,2017
Elsa J. Miller Clark Foston was born in Puerto Limon, Costa Rica on March 19,1934. She was one of 17 children born to James Miller and Anita Clark Miller. She was known among her friends and family as mommy Elsa, Elsita, Tia Elsa, and Sis. Foston.
Elsa went to School at Rafael Iglesia Castro School in Puerto Limon, and Methodist English School to learn English; and later studied Accounting at the American Business Academy in San Jose, Costa Rica. In her early years she worked as an accountant for Mr. Guson and when she migrated to the United States, her first job was that of book keeper at the Prudential Building. Her love of her daughter caused her to quit working at the Prudential and open a family daycare; a business she operated for approximately 30 plus years.
Elsa had many opportunities to migrate to the United States, but turned them down because she loved her parents and did not want to leave them. At the persuasion of her parents, she finally agreed to visit. It was here that she met Joe L. Foston whom she married on November 9, 1971, and they had one child, their daughter, Tara Foston Askew.
Sis. Foston as we called her was a very humble person and had a heart larger than life. Her love of God, family and those close to her was genuine. She was baptized with her daughter, Tara on October 17,1981 by Pastor John Nixon, and loved her church as much as she loved her own family. Sis. Foston served as a Deaconess, and a member of the Personal Ministries Department and the Gourmet Committee.
Sis. Foston played the piano, did cake decorating and loved to bake cakes, and pies, as well as doing crochet. She loved to travel and study various cultures, visiting many countries and states including, Paris, Rome, Santo Domingo, and Pennsylvania (Amish Country). She also loved traveling with her daughter Tara and they went to Costa Rica every summer for at least two months.
Sis. Foston is survived by her husband Joe L. Foston, daughter, Tara M. Foston Askew (Mark) grandchildren: Shawnte and JaShawn Foston and Mark Askew Jr., three (3) great- grandchildren: Elijah, Malakai, Ailani; siblings: Fernando, Lucius, Josefina, and Jaime Miller-Clark; Son-in-law Mark Askew Sr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives, friends and her beloved Berea Church Family.
Sis. Foston's prayer was that all her family would follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ, so that one day they will gather to meet on the sea of glass. So, rest on Mom, Elsita, Tia Elsa, Sis. Foston, until that great day when the trump of God shall sound and the dead in Christ shall rise first and we that are alive will be changed in a moment and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Rest in Peace!
