Obituary

Ann Griffin passed away peacefully on Sept. 24, 2017, at the Lackawanna Health & Rehab, surrounded by her family. Ann was born in Bolger, Smith Twp., Pa., daughter of the late Steven and Anna Moses. She was the wife of William Griffin, who died in 1980.

She was a graduate of Johnson School in Scranton and was the oldest living graduate.

Ann lived in Olyphant most of her life, where she and her husband, Bill, raised their five children. She worked many years in the garment industry and later worked for Sears, from which she retired. At one time she was an active member of the ladies auxiliary of Hose Company 1 in Olyphant, where her husband, Bill, was an active and life member. She was a member of Holy Cross Parish in Olyphant since she was a child and went to Mass on holy days and every Sunday. When she gave up driving, she attended Mass with her daughter, Ann. She later attended Holy Cross Parish. She was an avid reader all her life and preferred a good book rather than watching television. Ann was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She will be sorely missed by all of her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen and Anna Moses; husband of 39 years, William Griffin; her son, John Griffin; grandson, Jeffrey Griffin; her sister, Mary Ray and husband, George; and sister, Susan Zgavec and her husband, Gus; and sister-in-law, Helen Moses.

Ann is survived by her daughter, Ann Williams and husband, Edward, Peckville, Pa.; son, William Griffin and wife, Lynn, Justus, Pa.; son, James Griffin and wife, Mary, Greenfield Twp.; and daughter, Karen Schwenk and husband, Chuck, Whitehall, Pa.; a brother, John Moses, Woodbridge, N.Y.

She is also survived by nine grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Lackawanna Health & Rehab, especially the nurses and staff on the second floor C-section for their kindness and compassion

There will be no viewing. Ann will be cremated as per her wishes, and her ashes will be interred with her late husband, William, at the Holy Ghost Cemetery, Blakely, Pa.
