Raymond H. Anderson (82) of Chester, New Hampshire passed peacefully on September 26, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was formally of Atkinson, NH and Bronx, NY. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, his children Amanda and her husband Andrew Pomerleau, Kenneth and his partner Shannon Parker, Jessica and her husband Doug Hogan, Karen, and Raymond Jr. He is also survived by his grandchildren Chloe, Liam, Rowan, and Madeleine. He is predeceased by his Mother, Frances Overton Sanders.
Ray’s life was one of service and dedication. He served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He volunteered for 30 years on the board of Sonata housing, and his dedication was recognized by Governor Sununu. He also worked for the US government in the departments of the IRS and HUD. He served as a Tiger Cub and Cub Scout leader with the Boy Scouts of America. He was also a member and former president of the Chester Lions Club, a popular service organization. He was the owner of New Hampshire Magic Outpost, a popular gaming store in Londonderry, NH. He was an avid student and teacher of the Kabbalah, and a former president of the New Hampshire Astrological Society.
He brought a touch of magic and whimsy to all who knew him as the wise “Wizard of the Blue Gemstone.” His magical wizard persona was well-known for his love of the popular card game, Magic the Gathering. He spent countless hours collecting and selling cards as well as teaching young people how to play the popular game. He touched many young people’s lives in this way and made a great impact on his local community. He will be greatly missed by his family and loved ones.
Calling hours were held on Thursday, September 28, 2017 from 5 – 7pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry, NH. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, September 29th at 10:00am in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Ave., Derry. The burial followed in Great Hill Cemetery, Chester, NH.
