Mattie Lou Monk Woods, 92, of Tifton passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2017, at her residence. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 29, 2017, at Corinth Baptist Church with the Rev. Marshall Kennedy and the Rev. Billy Sumner officiating. Mrs. Woods will be laid to rest at Tift Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Johnny Woods officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday, September 28, 2017, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mrs. Woods will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
William David Parkerson, Johnny Parkerson. Michael Hayes, Ray Monk, Randall Monk and Arie Monk will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Garry Tucker, Tommy Tucker, Kenny Tucker, Donald Woods, Roger Woods, Earl Blanchard, Larry Walker and Darrell Woods.
Born July 16, 1925 in Quitman, Mrs. Woods was the daughter of the late Charlie Monk, Sr. and Susie Morrel Monk. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Albert Parkerson and Johnny Parkerson; one daughter, Mary Lou Parkerson; and two sisters, Lois Laster and Lelia Chauncey. She was a hard worker and retired as a seamstress from Fitzgerald Underwear Corporation. After retirement, she helped her husband with farming and she was a wonderful cook and homemaker. She loved to help others who were in need.
Mrs. Woods is survived by her husband, Alex C. Woods of Tifton, who she married July 1, 1972; one son, Henry Parkerson of Enigma; two daughters, Faye Tawzer and JoAnn Hayes, both of Brookfield; three brothers, Charles Monk of Nashville, Bill Monk of Blackshear and Alex Frazier of Colorado; four sisters, Hazel Lord of Florida, Floramae Bridges of Arkansas, Floyce Stewart of South Carolina and Versa Lee Lowell of Florida; 11 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
