Doris (Joyce) Driscoll, of Abington, passed away at her home on September 20, 2017 surrounded by family following an illness with which she dealt with determination, strength, and dignity. Born in Quincy July 11th, 1943 she was the wife of 52 years of James Driscoll and daughter of the late Edward and Francis (Slivonik) Joyce.
Doris was raised in Quincy and was a graduate of North Quincy High School, Class of 1961. She graduated from the Boston City Hospital School of Nursing in 1964 and was a registered nurse at Boston City Hospital. Together with her husband she later founded Atlantic Elevator Service, a successful family business located in Avon.
Doris was an avid boater, enjoying her time plying the waters up and down the east coast aboard the Emerald Isle while keeping a close eye on Captain Jim. Doris was a voracious reader and was always eager to share what she learned with others. She loved the holidays, whether it was hosting the post-Thanksgiving party for her extended family and friends or the happy pandemonium that was Christmas morning at home with her children and grandchildren. Doris was an extremely generous person who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Babies, toddlers, teenagers, young adults, and older children and siblings, sometimes all at once, she loved it all. No event would be complete without Doris gathering everyone together for a group photo, the memories from which we’ll be forever grateful.
Doris is survived by her husband James Driscoll; her son Jeffrey Driscoll of Framingham; her daughter Susan Buckley and her husband Thomas; her grandchildren Elysia of San Francisco, CA, Rachel of Wentworth, NH, and Meghan and Connor of Abington; her daughter Deborah DeGrenier and husband Steven of Abington; her grandchildren Chantal Rogiers and husband Jonathan of Abington, Lauryl of South Boston, Noelle of Plymouth, and Kyle of Abington, and her son Dennis Driscoll and wife Kimberly of Abington; her grandchildren Hannah Luckman, James, Nora, and Benjamin Driscoll of Abington. She is also survived by her brothers John Joyce and wife Catherine of South Weymouth, Thomas Joyce of Brockton, Peter Joyce and wife Lori of Mullica Hills, NJ, and Richard Joyce and wife Nancy of Quincy, sisters Ellen Richey of Evansville, IN, Mary Ann Garland and husband Jeffrey of East Bridgewater, and Clare Donahue and husband Edward of Walpole as well as 31 nieces and nephews, and longtime friends Sylvia and Edward Collins and Gail and Brian Faxon and their families.
A Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, September 26th at 9:00AM in the St Bridget Church, Abington. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Doris may be made to Melanoma Research Foundation (www.melanoma.org).
