Eleanor R. (Abbott) Ridlon, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at the Massachusetts General Hospital. She was 86 years of age.
Eleanor was born in Boston on October 11, 1930, a daughter of the late John B. Abbott and Sophie B. (LaRocque) Abbott. She grew up in Charlestown where she attended St. Catherine's Parochial School and graduated from St. Rose High School in Chelsea in 1949. Eleanor worked for over 30 years for the Bank of New England in Boston. She loved crossword puzzles, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, reading, and traveling to the beach.
Eleanor is the beloved wife of the late Arthur T. Ridlon. She is the devoted mother of Ellen Gallagher and her husband Ed of Charlestown, Stephen Ridlon of Charlestown, Doreen MacCormack and her husband Mark of Charlestown, Maureen Ridlon of Charlestown, Thomas Ridlon and his wife Meghan of Windham, NH., and Karen Ridlon of Charlestown. She is the loving grandmother of 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She is the beloved sister of Paul Abbott, Dotty Abbott, and the late John "Jack" Abbott.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Eleanor's Funeral on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. Her burial will be at the V.A. National Cemetery in Bourne at 1:15 P.M. Her visiting hours will be on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
