Mary Lucella Sweeney, 90, a 3-year resident of Bedford, New Hampshire, most recently of Carlyle Place, passed away on September 3, 2017. Mary was born to Georgiana (Ebner) Wimmer and Walter John Wimmer on June 9, 1927 in St. Cloud, Minnesota. She is predeceased by her husband of 60 years, William (Bill) Mortimer Sweeney, her daughter, Ann Mesaros, her sister, Donna Murn, and her parents. Mary and Bill were married in Boulder, Colorado in 1952, and raised a family in Wappingers Falls, New York, before retiring to Sun Lakes, Arizona. Mary graduated from the University of Minnesota, and worked as a kindergarten teacher for 30 years- in Ely, Minnesota before she was married, and in the Wappingers Central School District, when her children were older. Mary loved to sing and played the piano in her classroom. Mary was raised by her mother and a large extended family; her father died in a hurricane in the Florida Keys in 1935. During WWII, after graduating early from high school, Mary lived with her aunt in Washington, DC and worked for the FBI. Mary was an avid bridge player and enjoyed golf. After retiring, Mary volunteered for many years at the public library and hospital in Chandler, Arizona. Mary is survived by her daughter Patricia (Bob), her son Tom (Kathleen), seven grandchildren: Adam, Caroline, Jamie, Katherine, Matthew, Susan (Paul), Tim (Hope) and a great-granddaughter, Keira. She also leaves, a niece, Colleen Murn and two nephews, Jim and Tom Murn. Mary will be interned with Bill at the Valley of the Sun’s Mortuary in Chandler, AZ., services will be held the week of March 10, 2018. Day and time to be updated on website. Arrangements by J. N.
