New Bedford – Jose De Melo, age 88 of Dartmouth, passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Deolinda (Rodrigues) De Melo and the son of the late Maria (Rodrigues) and Manuel De Melo.
Jose was born in St. Michael, Azores and had worked as a self-employed finish carpenter for many years.
He is survived by his children, Brenda Viera of Fairhaven, Michael Mello and his wife, Carol of Acushnet, Edward De Melo of Florida and Melanie Feltner and her husband, Tony of Florida; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; siblings, Joao De Melo, Gloria Pimentel, Evelina Pavao, Mariana Rodriguez, also the late Manuel Melo and the late Otilia Andrade; as well as several nieces and nephews.
His visiting hours will be Sunday from 4:00-7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. His funeral services will be Monday, beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery.
