Obituary

Ritchie, Eugene P., affectionately known as Papa Geno, age 86, of Milton & Delray Beach, FL, passed away peacefully in the company of his loving family after a recent illness on Tuesday, September 19, 2017. Born in Boston, he grew up in Roxbury, graduated from Christopher Columbus High School, Boston and attended Boston University. Mr. Ritchie was a decorated U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He and his late wife, Sheila settled in Milton, where they raised their loving family. He considered himself a rich man in life, love and family. A retired Professional Photographer, Mr. Ritchie was actively involved in both the Milton and Delray Beach communities., a member of Milton Post # 114 A.L., as well as a Past President of Cunningham Lawn Bowling, a former Treasurer of Milton Pop Warner, actively involved in the Yaz Men’s Softball League and maintained a successful garden in Milton’s Community Victory Gardens. Mr. Ritchie was an avid golfer and a “dedicated high handicapper”. He served as a former Activities Director at Country Manors in Delray Beach. The beloved husband of the late Sheila A. (Slyne) Ritchie, he was the devoted father of Maureen E. Meisel & her husband Richard of Norwell, Susan Bornstein & her husband Richard of Hingham, Catherine Johnson & her husband Shawn of Marietta, GA, Patrick J. Ritchie and Robin Brooks of Bradford and Michael K. Ritchie & his wife Michelle of Hanover. He is also survived by his 11 cherished grandchildren; Mia, Shaila and Felicia Bornstein, Eric and Diana Johnson, Bryan and Brendan Ritchie and Ethan, Jacob, Liam and James Ritchie. He was the dear brother of the late John & Francis Ritchie and their wives, Phyllis of Quincy and Cecelia of Delray Beach, Fl. Special friend of Sissy Cassidy. Mr. Ritchie also leaves many loving nieces and nephews, in-laws and caring friends. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Agatha Church, Milton, Monday morning, September 25th at 11. Visiting hours will be held at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Ave., Milton, Sunday, September 24th from 4 to 8 PM. Burial will be in MA National Cemetery – Bourne, Monday, September 25th at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to My Brother’s Keeper, P.O. Box 338, Easton, MA 02356.
