Obituary

Mr. Joseph R. MacLean, Sr., of Taunton, passed away on September 17, following a brief illness. He was born 81 years ago in Malden, the son of the late Joseph and Marion (Quinn) MacLean. After graduating from Coyle High School in 1954, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served in Korea. Between 1966 and 1968, he also served in the United States Air Force, including service in Vietnam. He was a Registered Nurse and earned a Nursing Diploma from the Sturdy Memorial Nursing School and later a Bachelor’s Degree from Saint Joseph’s College of Maine and a Master’s Degree from Antioch University. Prior to his retirement, he was employed at the Paul A. Dever State School in Taunton. He was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed playing golf in Taunton and in Vero Beach, Fla., and also played softball with the Vero Beach Codgers.

He is survived by his sister, Elinor Lombardi of Taunton, as well as his three children: Lynne-Anne MacLean of Roswell, Georgia, Joseph MacLean Jr. and his wife, Kathleen, of Houston, Texas, and James MacLean and his wife, Laurie, of Medfield, Mass.; and his grandchildren: Sister Miriam MacLean of the Religious Sisters of Mercy in Alma, Michigan, Michael MacLean of Medfield, Mass., and Ryan MacLean of Medfield, Mass.; his close friends Margaret and Ralph Hodgson and family of Taunton, as well as numerous other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his brother, William MacVay and sister Marion (MacVay) Severino.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 17 Kilmer Ave., Taunton, on Saturday, September 30 at 11:00 A.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Immediately following the Mass, a reception will also be held at St. Andrew the Apostle Church. Visiting Hours are respectfully omitted. The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home of Taunton is assisting Joseph’s family with the arrangements.
