Belmont-----Arthur Zelig Gordon 87, son of Israel and Gertrude Bloch Gordon, died Sunday, September 17, 2017 at home one week after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Arthur was born January 25, 1930, in Hazelton, PA. He had many successful businesses, starting with 5 IGA stores, including the one in Laconia, that he built and developed with his cousin Charlie Gordon. Following the sale of these stores, he was involved in a number of successful entrepreneurial pursuits. Arthur enjoyed golf, flying his plane, and boating. Arthur was an avid reader and closely followed current events.
In 1986, Arthur married Irene. They were partners in business and in life. Together, they exemplified what it means to have a happy and healthy marriage, with much warmth and humor. They enjoyed traveling, boating, time with family, and volunteering for their local synagogue. In 1981, because of their love of Laconia and its Jewish community, Arthur and Irene organized the development of a Jewish section in the Union cemetery.
Arthur is survived by his wife and soul-mate, Irene, his sister Anita Allen (Arthur) of Warminster, PA, his children David Gordon (Maria) of Pittsburgh, PA, Jonathan Gordon (Ami) of Newton, MA, Ellen Gordon (Pamela) of Ann Arbor, MI, Kevin Gordon (Barbara) of Lexington, NC, his step-children David Brody (Kimberly) of Westford, MA, LynnKeltz (Ira) of Westford, MA,Jeffrey Brody (Patricia) of Belmont, MA and grandchildren Max, Zachary, Benjamin, Alleana, Renee, Jonathan, Archie, Benjamin, Matthew, Sarah, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.In addition to his parents, Arthur was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Rose Weisberg.
A Funeral Service will be held 3:00pm, Monday, September 18, 2017, Temple B’nai Israel, 210 Court Street, Laconia. Burial immediately following the service at Union Cemetery on Academy St., followed by a meal of condolence at the Temple.
Shiva will be observed Monday night at the Temple following the meal of condolence. The family will also be sitting Shiva on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at 7:00pm at the home of Irene Gordon. All are welcome.
