Obituary

YARMOUTH, ME – Dolores Stevens passed away on September 15, 2017 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, with family by her side, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. She was born in Montreal, Quebec on May 5, 1935 and was the daughter of Michael and Dolores (Gallaher) Coady. She attended numerous schools during her childhood in the Montreal area and later graduated from Graham’s Business College.

Dolores moved to Cape Cod Massachusetts in the late 1950’s. There she met her future husband and love of her life, Ronald Stevens. They married on May 1, 1965 in Hyannis and soon after bought a home and settled in Centerville where they had their only child, Scott Stevens.

Dolores worked for the Kennedy family for over 30 years in Hyannisport, Massachusetts. She began in the late 1960’s as a personal assistant to Rose Kennedy. After Mrs. Kennedy’s passing, Dolores remained with the Kennedy family supporting Senator Edward Kennedy and his sisters. Her duties included full responsibility of household management, correspondence and event planning. She cherished her role and considered the Kennedys like a second family.

Dolores had a strong love for children. She volunteered countless hours at the Centerville Elementary School that her son, Scott attended as well as multiple nursery schools on Cape Cod. In 2009, she decided to leave Cape Cod and move to Maine to be closer to her family, especially her three grandchildren, Cameron, Sarah and Emma.

Despite her failing health in recent years, she never lost her sense of humor, warm smile or desire to make someone’s day by telling one of her stories. We would like to thank all the staff at Coastal Manor Nursing Home for the wonderful care she received over the last four years.

Dolores is predeceased by her husband Ronald who passed in July 1991. She is survived by her son Scott Stevens and his wife Catherine, of Gorham and her three beloved grandchildren, Cameron, Sarah and Emma.

A memorial service is being planned for October on Cape Cod.
