James Lafayette Vickers, 77, of Tifton passed away Thursday, September 14, 2017, at his residence. His funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, September 16, 2017, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Terrell Roberts officiating. Mr. Vickers will be laid to rest at Tift Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Friday, September 15, 2017, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Dane Green, Kevin Green, Keith Green, Robbie Fox, Corey Green and Logan Green will serve as pallbearers.
Born January 22, 1940 in Tift County, Mr. Vickers was the son of the late Eubulus Vickers and Mary Fuller Vickers. He was also preceded in death by his first wife Rosa Mae Wilson Vickers; his second wife, Patricia “Lucille” Howell Vickers, who passed away February 20, 2017; one daughter, Melanie Sue Rodriguez; one step-son, Alvie Underwood; six brothers, S. J. Vickers, Henry Vickers, Erma Vickers, Basil B. Vickers, Victor V. Vickers and Hubert M. Vickers; and four sisters, Willie Mae Sumner, Myrtle Dunaway, Passala Tucker and Betty Hall. He was a retired machinist and a member of Tift Avenue Missionary Baptist Church.
Mr. Vickers is survived by three daughters, Phyllis Price of Sycamore and Aleida Mireles and Nancy Walker, both of Tifton; three step-sons and their wives, Joey and Nicole Underwood of Omega, Danny Underwood and Vickie Walsh of St. Mary’s and Kenny and Valerie Allen of Tifton; one sister, Resa Green of Omega; 7 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.
