DEVIN, Francis E. of Hyannis, Ret. Capt. BPD of Hyannis, formerly of West Roxbury, September 11, 2017. Husband of 62 years to the late Mary E. (Nee Lothrop). Father of First Lieutenant Paul G., U.S. Army Reserve, his wife Paula and their children Cassandra, Luke, and Sophia of Westwood; Kenneth F. and his wife Sally of West Roxbury; the late Kathleen J. and James M. Francis was one nine children of the late William and Helen Devin of Roxbury. Brother-in-law to the late George Coleman and his wife Carol of Dorchester. Uncle of Nancy, Susan and Pamela Coleman, Joan Hogan, Thomas Devin of Hyde Park, Shirley Devin of Norton, Helen Tochka of Dennis and Barbara Devin of CT. Cousin of Rev. John Devin CSsR. Francis is also survived by his beloved caretaker, Robyn Tyll, who prolonged his life caring for him since 2012. A US Army veteran drafted in 1944, Francis served in the Eighth Infantry Division. Francis received a Bronze Star, Two Combat Battle Stars, Combat Infantryman’s Badge and discharged as a platoon SGT in 1946. Francis was proud of his military service and the fact that six of his brothers served this country in wartime and both his sons, James and Kenneth, served during the Vietnam War as gunners mates on the U.S.S. El Paso. Francis joined the Boston Police Dept. in 1948 and was promoted to Sergeant in 1956, Lieutenant in 1960 and Captain in 1965 at the age of 39. Late Vice President of the Boston Police Superior Officers Federation. Francis retired in 1989 and then worked eighteen years for the Harbormaster at Bliss Point retiring at the age of 87 in 2013. Francis earned his BS from Northeastern University and his Masters Degree from the University of Massachusetts. Funeral from the William J. Gormley Funeral Home 2055 Centre St. WEST ROXBURY, Friday, September 15th at 9am. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Theresa Church at 10 o’clock. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 pm.
