Caroline Hovey, 93

Caroline (DelGrosso) Hovey, age 93, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her adoring family on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at the Daggett-Crandall-Newcomb Home in Norton. She was the beloved wife of the late Walter R. Hovey, who died on November 19, 1989.
Born in Watertown, MA on January 9, 1924, she was a loving daughter of the late Rocco A. and Angelina (Piantidosi) DelGrosso.
Caroline grew up and was educated in Watertown. She was a retired telephone operator; having worked for the United States Government while her husband was stationed in Okinawa, following WWII.
When younger, Mrs. Hovey had lived in Providence and was employed at the Goodyear Rubber Co. in Providence. She had made her home in Mansfield for the past sixty-three years.
Caroline was an active member of the Mansfield Council on Aging and a loyal supporter of the Salvation Army. Her favorite times were those spent with her adoring family, gardening, decorating, reading, crafts and line dancing.
She had a special place in her heart for all creatures, great and small, and enjoyed feeding the birds that frequented her yard in Mansfield.
She is survived by her devoted children Walter A. Hovey and his wife Janice of Mansfield, Carol A. McClowry and her husband James of Michigan, Denise M. Hovey of California, and Donna M. McClowry and her husband Patrick of Connecticut. She was the dear sister of Joseph DelGrosso of Mansfield, and the late Thomas DelGrosso, Viola Cavallaro, Alfred DelGrosso and Augustine DelGrosso. She was the cherished grandmother of Jaclyn Sinclair, James McClowry, Sarah Bouvier and Christopher McClowry, the great grandmother of Avery, Emma and Andrew, and is also survived by several generations of nieces and nephews.
Her funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Thursday, September 14th at 11:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 1:30 P.M.
Visitation will be held on Thursday morning, prior to the services, beginning at 10:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
Due to the limitation of flowers allowed at the National Cemetery, Caroline’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to Nine Lives of Norton Feline Rescue Shelter, 84 Hill St., Norton, MA 02766 or the Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary, 293 Moose Hill Parkway, Sharon, MA 02067.
