Obituary

MOORE SR, Roy Franklin, 81, passed away peacefully at his home in Hardyville, KY, on Thursday, September 7, 2017, at 8:40 a.m. in the presence of four of his daughters.

Roy was born in Louisville, KY, on June 4, 1936, to John and Lily Moore. He was the youngest of 10 children. He joined the US Navy and completed his GED after only going to school through the 8th grade. While in the Navy he was an aviation structural mechanic. He had the opportunity to visit ports all over the world during his time as a career sailor including Athens, Greece, which he commented on many occasions to be one of the most beautiful cities he had ever seen. Other ports included Istanbul, Turkey; Hong Kong, China; Barcelona, Spain; and Toulon, France just to name a few. Roy retired from the Navy in 1975. After this he worked for Bobcat Sales and Rentals, Kelly Fabricators, and finally retired from the civilian workforce after more than ten years at Louisville Forge and Gear.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three older brothers: Charles, Harold, and Ralph and six older sisters: Zelda, Iris, Hazel, Gwendolyn, Gwelda, and Maldenia as well as his grandson, Dustin VanVlack and a great-grandson, Dalton Carroll.

He is survived by his ex-wife, Dorothy Christian, six children: Linda Gauna, Kathy Druen, Tina Altizer, Barbara VanVlack, Sandra Montgomery, and Roy Moore, Jr.; 16 grandchildren, and more than 20 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 4-8pm Sunday at Owen Funeral Home – Jeffersontown, 9318 Taylorsville Road. Service is 12 Noon Monday at the funeral home followed by burial at Pennsylvania Run Cemetery.
