Obituary

SMITH, Russell 86, of Wellesley passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 6, 2017. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Florence (Santospago) Smith of Wellesley. 

Russell is also survived by his two sons Craig R. Smith and his wife Kate of Marshfield and Jeffrey F. Smith and his wife Amy of Marshfield; five grandchildren, Thomas, Michael, Steven, Lauren and Sarah Smith, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brother Donald Smith of Weymouth and his sister-in-law Helen Santospago of Wellesley.
 
Russell was a graduate of Quincy North High School and lived most of his adult life in Wellesley. Russell honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy for 20 years. His assignments included duties in Hawaii, India, Taiwan, and Key West, Florida.

After leaving the military, Russell earned his Associates Degree from Fisher Junior College. Russell was a dedicated employee of Honeywell Corporation and GTE, holding various human resources positions. 

Russell enjoyed travel and golf with his wife and their friends. Above all, his greatest joy and delight came from being with his family, whom he adored, and who will miss him tremendously. He was a fun-loving and gregarious husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all.

Visitation Thursday, September 14 from 9:00-10:30am at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St., (Rt 16) WELLESLEY followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Paul Church, Wellesley at 11:00am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment will be private.
