Mrs. Irene Laura Merrigan, age 93, died in New Hampshire, Wednesday October 5, 2005 after a lengthy illness. Irene was born in Somerville and was the daughter of the late Hannah (Buckley) & Francois Marie Plourin Flores. In 1951 Irene moved to Medford from Somerville and has been a resident ever since.
Irene went to work at New England Tel & Tel in Boston in her early teens. She became an Operator for the phone company and worked at the Boston, Somerville and Malden locations. She was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers. Irene retired in 1977 after 50 years of service. Irene was a kind, compassionate person who dearly loved her family and friends. She just loved being a mother to her extended family. One of the things Irene enjoyed doing was having a nice meal with family and friends.
Irene was the beloved wife of the late John F. Merrigan. Devoted mother of Maureen Merrigan, Nancy Evans both of Medford, John Merrigan of Jaffrey, NH, and Richard Merrigan of Boxford. Loving grandmother of Cynthia Yandle, Jonathan Merrigan, Karen Bears, Sean Merrigan, Ryan Merrigan, and John Merrigan. Loving great grandmother of Meaghan Irene Yandle.
Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., MEDFORD, Monday at 10 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High St., Medford at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday 4 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
