Obituary

David Crandall Bogue, 60, said goodbye to his family and friends and greeted his Heavenly Father on Tuesday evening, September 5, 2017.

David was a genuine citizen of Ledyard, Conn for most of his 60 years having lived there with his family from birth, July 22, 1957.

He was the beloved son of Francis A. Bogue (deceased 1998) and Lois S. Bogue, brother of Janice B. Lehner of Groton, Bruce A. Bogue and Andrew S. Bogue, both of Ledyard and three nieces, Jessica Marie (Bogue) Forys of Lawrence, Tennessee, Jamie Anne Bogue and Jaclyn Rene Bogue of Ledyard.

He was a Junior member of the Ledyard Grange. During his years at Ledyard High School, he enjoyed theater production participation as actor, stage crew, lighting assistant and musician/chorus. He was an accomplished musician, playing the trumpet in the Ledyard High School marching and concert bands, and he had a wonderful singing voice. He sang and played guitar in soft rock/country bands and sang in many church choirs and was a very devout Christian.

David was a true Ledyard town helper from the age of eight helping set up fences for the Ledyard Fair with his brothers and friend Jerry Watkins, moving on to Junior Brush Fire Brigade#14 and then Life Member of Ledyard Fire Department No. 1, contributing in their many activities including Director of Civil Preparedness and Chairman of Fire Board of Directors.

Retired from Ledyard Public Works, he was a lifetime resident of Ledyard. David was involved in many community events. He was a dedicated Firefighter and enjoyed being at the firehouse and especially driving the engines and helping people whatever the situation. David enjoyed fishing a lot, along with hunting and boating.

David’s legacy is how he mentored upcoming cadets of the Ledyard Fire Company. Many of them still thanked him for the invaluable information and “old stories” of less modern equipment that he passed on to them.

David’s family will greet relatives and friends on Friday, September 15, from 6 to 8pm at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 16, at 10:30am at the Ledyard Fire House, 11 Fairway Drive in Ledyard. Burial will immediately follow in the Ledyard Center Cemetery on Route 117, Ledyard. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation or to a charity of the donor's choice.
