Obituary

Frederick J. "Freddie" Collins Jr., a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at the Lowell General Hospital. He was 74 years of age.

Freddie was born in Somerville on March 24, 1943, a son of the late Frederick J. Collins and Eva A. (Blackstone) Collins. He grew up in Charlestown where he attended St. Francis De Sales Parochial School and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1961. He enlisted into the United States Army and served his country faithfully and with honor. He worked as a bridgetender for 42 years with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts until he retired in 2007. Freddie loved baseball and was an avid Red Sox fan. He was a member of the Bunker Hill Council #62 Knights of Columbus and the Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association.

Freddie is the beloved husband of the late Ann R. (O'Donnell) Collins. He is the devoted father of Helen Walsh and her husband Mark of Stoneham, Fred Collins and his wife Kristin of Charlestown, Cheryl Gallagher and her husband Jason of Charlestown, Mark Collins and his wife Elaine of Charlestown, and Michael Collins of Wilmington. He is the loving Papa of Meghan, Devin, Annemaire, Noel, and Courtney. He is the beloved brother of Joe Collins of Franklin, Jim Collins of Medford, and Tom Collins of Pelham, NH.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Freddie's Funeral on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. His burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. Visiting hours will be on Friday, September 8, 2017 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
