New Bedford - Joan (Korzybski) Worden, 89, of North Dartmouth, MA passed away Tuesday, September 5th peacefully at Saint Luke’s Hospital, New Bedford, MA. She was born to Estelle and Walter Korzybski in New Haven, CT where she grew up on State Street and later moved to Hamden, CT. She attended St. Stanislaus Elementary School and Commercial High School and graduated in 1947. She also attended Parsons School of Design in New York City with a concentration in fashion design for a brief period. She started working in the secretarial field at Brock Hall Dairy, in Hamden, CT. She married Leo Worden in ’54 and moved to New Bedford, MA. She held various secretarial positions at the Continental Screw Company and the New Bedford Regional Airport. Through the years, she also worked in the Dartmouth Public School System, as a matron and a cafeteria worker. Joan’s greatest joy was watercolor painting and spending time with her family. Joan was a very loving and caring person who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Leo Worden and three children - Stephen Worden (Laurna) of Guilford, CT, Kathleen Worden Cabral (David) of Bradford, MA, and Paul Worden of North Dartmouth, MA and two grandchildren - Kaitlin and Christopher Worden. She was predeceased by her sister, Trudy Korzybski McMinn and brother, Robert R. Korby.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit Sunday 5 to 7pm at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St, New Bedford, MA. Her funeral will be celebrated Monday, beginning in the funeral home at 8:45 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at St. Julie Billiart Church, 494 Slocum Rd, North Dartmouth, MA 02747.
