Samuel O. Norton, 83, died unexpectedly Sunday September 3. He was the beloved husband of the late Denise (McGuire) Norton. Sam and Denise were married for 48 years. Sam was a lifelong resident of Whitman, the only son of Reggie and Almira Norton, also lifelong residents of Whitman.
Sam was a veteran of the United States Army. He spent his entire career as an oil burner service technician and was the owner of Norton's Heat. He spent his younger years playing semi-pro football for the Whitman Town team in the 50's and 60's. Sam was heavily involved in youth sports, coaching Whitman Youth Soccer and Basketball teams in the 70's and 80's. Sam was well known around town for his involvement in the Congregational Church, as well as many civic and social clubs.
Survived by his son, Daniel A Norton of Whitman and his wife Kerri and their 3 children, Avarie, Conner, and Logan Norton. Also survived by his son Wayne Walgreen and his wife Debbie of Middleboro, and Kimberly Ann Norton (Walgreen) Roche of Quincy, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
His memorial service will be held Tuesday, September 12 at 7:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 5:00-7:00 PM. Burial will take place Wednesday September 13 at 10:00 AM in the Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman.
