Julia Price Gray, age 98, of Tifton passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center in Moultrie. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2017, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with Rev. Benjy Varnell officiating. Mrs. Gray will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 8, 2017, from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Crawford Little, Mason Price, Tommy Whiddon, Steve Gray, Walt Gray and Mark Barr will serve as pallbearers.
Born January 8, 1919 in Quitman, Mrs. Gray was the daughter of the late Julian Mason Price and Ruth Wilson Price. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bowie Gray; a daughter, Joan Gray Wilburn; and two brothers, Julian Edwin Price and Elmer Mason Price.
Mrs. Gray graduated from Shorter College in Rome with a major in French. She later attended the University of Georgia, where she acquired certification as a librarian, serving in that profession at the Coastal Plains Regional Library, Tifton-Tift County Library and the Tift County High School.
She served as organist and Bible teacher for many years at the Frist United Methodist Church of Tifton. She was a charter member of the Camelia Garden Club and a member of the Tallassee Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution.
Survivors are a son, Joseph (Joe) Bowie Gray, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Jane Little Gray of Tifton; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Wilburn Bunner (Jeff) of Raleigh, North Carolina and Ann Gray Gorman (Sean) of Athens; two grandsons, Brent Wilburn (Stacey) of Loganville and Joseph Bowie (Bo) Gray, III of Tifton; and two great grandchildren, Nate Wilburn and Erin Gorman.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial gifts may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 107 12th Street West, Tifton, GA 31794; or a charity of your choice.
