Obituary

Wallace R. “Wally” Duncan, Jr. 80, of Franklin, died peacefully, with family at his side, Monday Sept. 4, 2017 at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, following an illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth A. “Betty” (Campbell) Duncan, who died in 2014.

Born in Norwood, October 23, 1936, a son of the late Wallace R. Duncan, Sr. and Gertrude (Anderson) Duncan, he was a Franklin resident for over 55 years.

He was raised and educated in Walpole, was a graduate of Walpole High School and continued his education at Clarkson University. Wally worked for the Polaroid Corporation as an optical engineer until his retirement.

He was a founding member of Franklin Youth Hockey and remained actively involved for decades, he held many positions on the board and coached for many years. Wally was also the rink manager.

Wally’s family was everything to him, he was supportive in all of his kid’s activities and then followed his grandchildren to all of their games, he never wanted to miss anything. An avid golfer, Wally remained close to a group of friends from school and played golf with them regularly.

He treasured family vacations to Dennisport, Cape Cod, was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Franklin and was a former member of the Franklin Lodge of Elks and the Franklin Auxiliary Police department.

Wally is survived by his children; Wallace R. “Wally” Duncan III and his wife Lynn of Mississippi, Mark C. Duncan and his wife Diane of Massachusetts and Cynthia L. Nickerson and her husband John of Rhode Island, & a sister Margaret “Peg” Yeadon of Burlington, Vermont.

Also surviving are 6 cherished grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Sat. Sept. 9th at 9:15AM from the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church 1 Church Square, Franklin at 10AM.

Interment will be held privately.

Calling hours are Friday from 4-7PM at the funeral home.
