Mary V. (Strickland) Vaters, of Stoneham passed away at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on Saturday June 8, 2002. She celebrated her 86th birthday June 6, 2002.
Born in East Boston, Mrs. Vaters was a resident of Stoneham for the past 20 years.
Mary was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association. She was a former owner of a Day Care Center and was also a Tax Examiner for the Internal Revenue Service for 20 years. At the age of 70 she received her Bachelors Degree in Psychology from Harvard University.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
Mary and her husband Malcolm would have celebrated their 60th anniversary on July 10th. She is survived by her three children, Bonnie Whitney of Stoneham, Gary Vaters and his wife Carol of Rhode Island, Gale Donovan of Andover and her two grandchildren John & Katherine Donovan. She was the sister of William Strickland of New York.
