Shirley Koontz Duffy, 96, entered into rest on Friday, September 1, 2017 at her residence.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at Platt’s Belair Chapel with the Rev. Dr. J. Andrew Menger officiating. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park.
Mrs. Duffy, an Augusta native, attended college at the University of Georgia, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. She went on to earn a Masters degree in Education, also from UGA. She taught chemistry and biology at the Academy of Richmond County, as well as at Drew College in San Francisco. Mrs. Duffy also loved to sing. She was a member of the Glee Club while at UGA, sang with the USO for the troops during WWII, and was a member of the choir at St. Paul’s Church.
She is survived by her sons; William J. Heffernan III, George Heffernan (Kathy), and Kevin J. Heffernan, her daughter; Debbie Heffernan Sikes (Robbie), as well as 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lydia Heffernan.
Pallbearers will be William Heffernan IV, Kenny Heffernan, Christopher Antonakos, Clayton Antonakos, Wesley Heffernan, Taylor Heffernan, David Roy and Robbie Powell.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday afternoon, one hour prior to the service, from 2:00 until 3:00 PM.
