Obituary

Robert Alfred Madru passed away peacefully on Aug.29, 2017. He was born to Camille and Elsie (Krueger) Madru in Wales, MA on July 13, 1922. He attended Chicopee schools. He owned and operated the Robert A. Madru Inc. plumbing business for over 30 years. He was a 75 year member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 104. He was a member of the Holyoke Scottish Rite, the Knight Templar Commandery, the Melha Shriners and the Holyoke Revolvers Club. He served in the US Coast Guard during WWII. He was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Chicopee where he served as a Deacon. He was also a member of the men’s club and served on the investment Committee. He enjoyed music and played the guitar. He is survived by his daughter Pamela Baker; his grandchildren Robin Tighe and her partner Erik Drake, Maynard Baker and his wife Mariana of Tampa, FL, Jennifer McGrath and her husband Dr. Timothy McGrath of Powray, CA and seven great grandchildren Shannon Tighe, Madison Tighe, Alexander Baker, Joshua Baker, Samuel Baker, Ian McGrath and Morgan McGrath. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 72 years Alice Madru in 2014, his daughter Roberta Madru in 1963, his son Clifford Madru in 2009, his brother Allan Madru, a sister Dorothy Mooney and a sister Elaine Madru. His family would like to thank the staff of Willimansett Center East and the Beacon Hospice for the wonderful care they provided. A Funeral Service will be held at the First Congregational Church, 302 Chicopee St. Chicopee, MA on Friday Sept. 8, 2017 at 9:30 AM. Burial will follow the service in Forestdale Cemetery in Holyoke. The Grise Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital or to the First Congregational Church 302 Chicopee St. Chicopee, MA 01013.
